August 2018 – October 2018 • Selection committee meetings for application design, application review, and interviews • 36 applications submitted • 20 applicants interviewed • 12 selected with a waitlist • Committee members: Mr. Coley, Mr. Wright, Mrs. Boone, Mr. Saunders, Ms. Robinson, and Ms. Harden

  6. First Meeting October 27, 2018 • Rocket building • Rocket launching • Group photos • Swag giveaways

Morehead Board Meeting November 9, 2018 • Presentation to the board and interview with UNC Communications • Additional funding secured for three Saunders Science Scholars • Tuition scholarships secured for NC School of Science and Mathematics Early Accelerator • Gates County Community Partnership announcement

  8. Monthly Meetings November 2018 – March 2019 • Coding • Pasta car building and races • Egg drop challenges • Crime scene mystery solving • Chemistry experiments

Outreach Programs in Gates County Schools September 2018 – MARCH 2019 • Mobile Planetarium: 7 visits • Science on Your Street: 3 visits • Classroom and Educator: 10 visits • Science on Stage: 4 visits • Duke Energy Family Science Nights: 3 visits • STEMville Science Symposium: 1 visit • Teacher training workshops: 2 visits in addition to GCS teachers in Chapel Hill

Program Investment Current Total: $329,000 • $43,000 annually for 5 years: (Steven Butts) • $2,000 annually for 5 years: (Cynthia Saunders Cheatham and Benjamin Saunders, Jr.) • $14,000 annually for 5 years: (Morehead outreach programs with funding from private sources) • $12,000 NCSSM tuition assistance • $22,000 Morehead salary in-kind
