Spiritual Sight The Eternal Purpose of God Part IV
2 Timothy 2:20,21 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, andprepared unto every good work.
Matthew 17:1-3 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Which Moses was this?
Was this the Moses… • In the bulrushes? • That murdered the Egyptian? • That didn’t want to lead the children of Israel?
Luke 9:30,31 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
Where Moses and Elijah here retired, or performing a valuable service?
Is heaven eternal retirement, or something with more purpose?
1 Corinthians 6:2,3 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Was Abraham retired here, or performing a service?
Revelation 22:4,5 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Is reigning work? Ask the king of Denmark, or Queen Elizabeth, or any other modern monarch.
Revelation 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
Does this description sound like eternal retirement?
Revelation 5:9,10 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
This passage does NOT teach premillinealism.
These are reigning priests of the new earth.
Romans 9:22-24 What if God, willing to shewhis wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but
Romans 9:22-24 also of the Gentiles?
God is preparing vessels of mercy.
Luke 12:43-47 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The
Luke 12:43-47 lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
We have a responsibility to take part in that preparation!
Revelation 21:1-7 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the
Revelation 21:1-7 tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are
Revelation 21:1-7 passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that
Revelation 21:1-7 overcomethshall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
Notice how New Jerusalem is prepared.
This is the purpose for Christ’s sacrifice!
Titus 2:13,14 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
This is the reason that we were created.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Evangelism is only the beginning of the picture!
Matthew 28:19,20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
This is what God has ordained for those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28,29 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
This is the purpose of being a disciple.
Matthew 10:24ff The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord…
Luke 6:40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
What does God call “perfect”? • Not glow in the dark and walk on water. • Not sinless – never even one time.
What does God call “perfect”? • Not mean you can’t be tempted; (otherwise, how do we explain Christ being tempted?) • Not a status in the eyes of God.
What does God call “perfect”? • Not blameless – ‘αμομητω’, ‘αμεμτος’, or ‘ανεγκλητος’. • ‘Mature’ is part of it, but not all of it.
Perfection is more than simple maturity.
Philippians 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Literally: complete, lacking nothing e.g., 52 cards
