Building 918 Refurbishing of building 918 is needed after about 30 years operation and NA60 dismantling: • Not only the NA60 detector and beam line in the ECN3 cavern have been dismantled, but also the control room and the crates room upstairs in building 918 • Our aim is to refurbish the NA62 control room and conference room and to have a computer room for the new PC farm • Michael Jeckel is in charge for CERN EN-MEF • We have to provide our infrastructure requirements: • detailed plan and occupation of the different spaces • electrical and cooling power • chilled water supply • Network, phones, access control, etc…
PC farm We have to estimate now what will be our needs for the NA62 PC farm in terms of: • Computing power • Storage • Number and bandwidth of network links between: • The farm and the experiment in ECN3 • The farm and the CERN IT computing center and outside world • Among the machines in the farm itself These requirements will in turn determine our needs in terms of • Electrical power • Cooling power … and, together with the racks cooling technology choices, will have consequences on: • Footprint and needed spaces • Infrastructure (chilled water, cooling plant, UPS, etc.)
PC farm Racks: • Water-cooled 19’’ racks, with air/water heat exchanger mounted on the rear door, 9-10 kW/rack • Water inlet 15 °C, outlet 25 °C, pressure drop 1 bar • We have space for up to 2×19 racks, but we started considering approximately 1/2 occupation (we also will have storage, network switches) • We take as a reference 150 kW total power • e.g. for the UPS we consider 15 min. for 200 kVA
