It starts with you. You have a good Idea. Let’s say it is a tip to help people quit smoking.
You submit it into the Idea library at www.gotocompanion.com. Not only is your Idea good, but you did a good job of entering it. Your instructions are clear and you rated it accurately.
Companion users seeking Ideas to help them quit smoking encounter your Idea. They find it effective, and over time, its popularity grows. Soon, your Idea becomes one of the top 10 tips for people who are trying to quit smoking and it has been saved by over 1,000 users.
In the meantime, a company called Cig Patches Inc. just released a new nicotine patch that is more effective than existing versions and is looking for a way to effectively market their new product on a limited budget.
Your Idea is the perfect place for Cig Patches Inc. to market its new product. Everyone in the group is a potential customer, which is far more effective than other advertising methods it has used in the past. As a result, Cig Patches, Inc. decides to sponsor your Idea. A small ad for their new nicotine patch now appears on your Idea page.
You receive notification that your Idea is being sponsored and are directed to set up a PayPal account so that you can begin receiving your portion (33%) of the advertising revenue generated from your Idea.
So long as ads are placed within your Idea, you continue receiving payments.
How much money you can receive is based on several factors. How many Ideas you submit to Companion that get sponsored (There is no limit to the number of Ideas you are allowed to submit.) 2. How long sponsorship for your Idea(s) continues (The longer it is sponsored, the more payments you will receive. Sponsorship occurs on a monthly basis and the initial rate is $10 per month per ad sponsored. You receive one third or $3.33 per month as long as the Idea is sponsored.) 3. When multiple advertisers want to sponsor your Idea, an auction is used to determine the rate. (This means, instead of receiving $3.33 per sponsored Idea per month sponsored, you will now receive one third of the final auction price generated. For example, an auction that generates a rate of $80 will result in a monthly payment to you of $26.60.) If you bring a sponsor to Companion that results in an advertisement, you receive a referral commission of 33% of the total amount of the first purchase. (In the example above, if you actually found the sponsor for your Idea, you would get an additional 33% of the total rate. As a result, you would receive $53.20)
What this means is that one good Idea you submit, requiring a only a one-time effort, can generate ongoing revenue for you.
Making money isn’t easy, however. And we don’t want you chasing advertising revenue without success.
In fact, this calls for a disclaimer: Even if your Idea is good, there is no guarantee it will ever be sponsored. Sponsorship is based on a decision made by a third-party that Companion does not control.
But we still want you to succeed. We want Companion to work. We want you to be able to make money off your Ideas. As a result, the following guidelines have been designed to help you improve your chances of receiving ad revenue.
#1 – Write your Idea in a clear, concise manner that is easy to understand.
#2 – Post a video. If good quality, videos are more likely to be viewed and saved than Ideas that are pure text.
#3 – Make it easy for your viewers to get the benefit out of your Idea. Provide step by step instructions, examples, samples, stories, templates or other guides to help them. Make suggestions as if you were helping a friend.
#4 – Be honest. Don’t over-rate your Idea’s benefits. Alternatively, don’t underestimate the cost and time required to implement your Idea, or any other negative consequences for that matter. People will appreciate your honesty. Tip: Synch your rating criteria to that of the community. Is your Idea as good as most of the 4 star Ideas? Then rate it a 4. Is your Idea really only as beneficial as most of the 3 star Ideas? Then rate it a 3.
#5 – Fill out all sections of the Idea page. Although it may not seem important, these fields help users find your Idea in the Idea Library. Less information makes them less likely to find it. Also, if you are attaching a video, realize that the keyword search will not pick up what is in the video, so fill in each of the sections as you would without the video to ensure it appears in search results.
#6 – If your Idea came from someone else (a friend, a book, an article, a speech, etc.), be considerate to the original author and cite it as the source. It is the right thing to do! (Even better, embed a link to the book, article, or website where you found it, so that viewers can see the original source.)
#7 – If you are short on Ideas, submit an Idea you have encountered that you like. Or, you can improve on an existing Idea in the database by providing an improved way for achieving more benefit from it or simply by providing a better description for what it is and how it works. This encourages Idea evolution, which pushes our Ideas to develop further than they would otherwise.
#8 – Promote your Idea! Share it with your network and encourage them to share it with their network. This will increase the popularity of your Idea making it more likely it will receive sponsorship.
#9 – If all else fails, approach the advertiser yourself! That’s right – if you submit an Idea that you think would be the perfect opportunity for a business to advertise on, contact them with the opportunity. Companion will pay you a 33% commission for all referrals. Just tell them to mention your username when they go to place their ad.
#10 – Survey your competitive environment. If you expect to receive ad revenue you should be better than other similar Ideas or different from them in a way that is good. If that is not the case, improve the quality of your Idea. Update it with better examples, clearer guidance, a video, etc.
#11 - Increase your chances by submitting more Ideas. The more Ideas you submit, the greater your chances.
Companion thinks all good Ideas have value. Even better are good Ideas that come with instructions, are rated, etc. We want you to succeed and be recognized for your good Ideas. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, or where you live, or where you went to school, or where you work, or who you know. If your Idea is good – Companion users will recognize it and recognize You!
