Anabolic Steroids • Synthetically created to act like naturally occurring sex hormones • Testosterone • Androgenic and anabolic effects • Androgenic effects include growth development • Masculinization in males • Anabolic effects promotes protein synthesis in skeletal muscles; increasing muscle size
Andro vs. Anabolic • Individuals want to maximize anabolic effects and minimize andro effects • No steroids exist that have only anabolic effects
