Fyodor Dosteyvsky • Raised in the family home in the grounds of the Mariinsky Hospital for poor. • Attended the free Military Institute. • First novel, Poor Folk completed in May 1845. • Poor Folk became successful. • Published The Double. • Not successful
Fyodor Dostoyevsky • Arrested for treason and sentenced to death. • Death sentence doesn’t stay. • His wife Maria and brother Mihail die in 1864 Writes Crime and Punishment and publishes the first two parts in January and February 1866. • Married Snitkina on February 15th, 1867 • Suffered a pulmonary hemorrhage and died .

Summary Overview • Raskolnikov is living in poverty. He is a former student. • Has to pawn stuff to a women that he wants to kill. • Raskolnikov meets an alcoholic named Marmeladov. He drinks with his families money. • Raskolnikov see’s Marmeladov’s home life when he takes him home.
Summary Continued. • Raskolnikov receives a letter from his mother explaining that she and his sister are moving to St. Petersburg. He finds out his sister is marrying a not so nice guy names Luzhin. • Raskolnikov kills pawnbroker and her sister. • Razumihin takes care of Raskolnikov while he is sick. • Finds Marmeladov who was trampled by a horse carriage.
