UDP-galactose 4’-epimerase (GALE, 20 μM) was crosslinked with EDC (70 μM) as described in the Materials and Methods. GALE’s ability to homodimerise is not known to be affected by calcium ions. The presence of various concentrations (indicated in the figure) of either calcium chloride or EGTA had no effects on the molecular mass of the products or the amount of product produced (as judged by eye). M, molecular mass markers (sizes in kDa indicated to the left of the figure); C, untreated GALE (note, some GALE degradation is seen in all lanes); 0, GALE crosslinked with no added calcium chloride or EGTA.
