  3. Expectations • Each month we will “unpack” a reading standard for Literary and Informational Texts.

  4. Key Learning: Interpreting the CCSS will influence planning for instruction. Unit Essential Question: How do I interpret the Common Core State Standards in order to begin planning for instruction?

  5. Launch KUD Literacy Concept Organizer Puzzle

  6. Lesson Essential Question: How does understanding CCSS1 in Literary and Informational Texts influence planning?

  7. Instruction • College and Career Ready (CCR) 1: Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.

  8. Instruction • Grade Specific Standards for Literary Text • Read the KUD Literacy Organizer for a grade, looking carefully at the Know and Do column. • Share out key information with the group.

  9. Assessment Prompt 1 Put the Grade Specific Standards in the correct order from K-5

  10. Instruction • Grade specific standards for Informational Text • Read the KUD Literacy Organizer for a grade, looking carefully at the Know and Do column. • Compare the Know and Do column in the Literary organizer with the Informational organizer.

  11. Assessment Prompt 2 • Share conclusions • K-1 • 2-3 • 4-5

  12. Assignment • Find opportunities for teaching CCSS 1 standards utilizing Literary and • Informational Texts in Storytown. • Use Focus Skill charts and knowledge of texts. • Place post-it notes next to selections. • Complete chart with possible texts.
