  4. Human &Physical Features Did you know that Belize has a higher literacy rate than the U.S.A? In other words, 93% of all Belizians can read and write, but only 86% of Americans can read and write. Also, Belize has a birth rate of 25.2 births (per 1000 pop.), while America has only 14 births (per 1000 pop.). On the other hand, America’s population is about 299,846,000 people while Belize totals in at about 276,000 people. These are all examples of human features. A physical feature of Belize is its total area, which is 8,867 square miles. That area is much smaller than the area of the U.S.A, which is 3,794,083 square miles. Those are some human and physical features of Belize and the U.S.A.

  5. Flag Did you know that the two red strips on Belize’s flag were only added after the country’s independence in 1981? Actually, lots of features on the flag have to do with Belize’s independence from Great Britain. For example, the motto on the flag “sub umbra floreo,” meaning “I flourish in the shadow,” refers to the revolution that helped with Belize becoming an independent state. Also, the 50 olive leaves on the outside of the seal of Belize’s flag stand for the year 1950, which is when Belize began their struggle for independence. Aside from the the fact that Belize’s flag represents its independence, it is also the only national flag that uses 12 colors. In conclusion, Belize has an interesting flag whose symbols stand for its independence.

  7. Religion Did you know that 40% of Belize’s population practices the religion of Roman Catholic? Roman Catholics believe that there is one god, who is a trinity of father, son and holy spirit. Also, Roman Catholics believe that when you die, you go to either heaven or hell, based on how much you have sinned. By the way, there are 2 million adherents worldwide that practice Christianity. Roman Catholic is a form of Christianity. They also go to church every Sunday. In addition, the sacred text of Roman Catholics is the Bible. In conclusion, those are some interesting facts about the most practiced religion in Belize: Roman Catholic.

  9. Animals Did you know that Belize has over 145 species of mammals? For example, one of Belize’s mammals is the Jaguarundi. For the most part, Jaguarundis live in dense shrubbery, but some are found in dry deserts. Also, a Jaguarundi’s diet consists of rats, mice, birds, and rabbits. Another animal that is present in Belize is an Agouti, which is a type of rodent. Agoutis are strictly herbivorous, eating only nuts and fruit from the dense forests where they live. They are preyed on by cars, dogs and humans. Those are some mammal that live in Belize.

  10. Glossary Agriculture: Agronomics The production of crops, livestock or poultry. Belize produces bananas, cacao, citrus, sugar, fish and lumber. Airport: Airfield Tract of land with facilities for the landing, takeoff, shelter, supply and repair of aircraft. Belize has 47 airports. Anthem: Canticle A song of praise, devotion or patriotism. Belize’s national anthem is “Land of the Free”. Area: Expanse Any particular extent of space or surface. The area of Belize is 22,966 km sq. Capital: Controlling The city of town that is the office of government in a country or state. Belize’s capital is Belmopan.
