River Oaks Elementary IB Exhibition is a collaborative project completing the final year of the IB/PYP program. It synthesizes PYP components, encouraging research, action, and presentation to the community. Students engage in extensive research and take meaningful action, culminating in a presentation night. The timeline spans from January to May, with key milestones including research, interviews, field trips, and planning for presentation night. Students are assessed throughout the project, with an Exhibition Organizer providing support. Parents and volunteers play crucial roles in encouraging and assisting students, but are asked not to complete the project for them or steer them in unwanted directions. Materials and mentorship are essential components for a successful Exhibition.

What can you do to help? • Cheer students on and be an encourager! • Help students locate relevant and readable resources to be brought to school. • Help connect students to primary sources • Facilitate off campus visits/interviews and action
What can you do to help? • Be a sounding board for student ideas • Encourage creativity in presentation • Provide materials needed for presentation • Be a guest speaker, mentor or help recruit mentors!!
What we would ask you NOT to do: • Complete any of the project for your child! • Lead them in a direction they are not interested in taking their work • Tell them how to do their project or what they should care about • Discount their ideas
Materials • We will provide all students with a floppy notebook and dividers for their research. We will also allow students access to all classroom materials that would normally be available to them for their products. • If your child needs specialized materials for their display or presentation, we would ask that you help by providing these materials for them.
Speakers and Mentors • Adult helpers are the lynchpin to a successful Exhibition. We have two important ways you can help this year: • We need approximately 40 small group mentors. Mentors commit to 6 weeks of shepherding a small group of students through their inquiry project. • We also need experts in the various fields to be guest speakers, interviewees, primary sources and field trip support. (immediately I am looking to find participants for a speaker panel about real world hot topics)
