Waterways Management Required integrated effort on part of USCG Waterways Management, Pilots, and Decontamination (decon) group to find solution. Search for underwater obstructions UC developed standard of “clean” for vessels Vessel/facility prioritization unit established & developed software tool to assist in prioritizing vessels for decon. Tool provided rationale for cleaning decisions. Implementation of Vessel Traffic Information System with help of Pilots, Maritime Exchange, USACOE, & tug dispatchers Excellent use of the Mariners’ Advisory Committee & Pilots to develop protocols for managing/authorizing vessel movements Prioritized decon procedure facilitated re-opening river after 3 days.
