  1. Welcome to 5th Grade Curriculum Night! “A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions.” -Emerson

Essential Question: Who is teaching my child? • 12 years teaching (not including 3 years of long term sub gigs) • B.A. in Journalism, Master of Education, Master of Business Administration • ELL, Middle School Language Arts, and Elementary Endorsement • Military kid and military spouse • Mom to three boys (Cascade Ridge, Beaver Lake, and Skyline)

  5. Our Week! • Music- Mondays and Thursdays. • PE- Tuesdays and Fridays • Library- Tuesdays • Wednesdays- Social Emotional Lesson • School Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday- 9:15-3:40 Wednesday- 9:15-1:30

Typical Day • TCB – Taking Care of Business • Morning Meeting/Tinker Time • Math • Reading • Recess/Lunch 11:00 -11:45 • Reading Workshop – Making Meaning, CAFE (Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, Expand Vocab.), Genre Tub • Social Studies/Science/Second Step/Health • Writing Workshop – Lucy Calkins Units of Study (Narrative, Opinion, Informative) • Recess (1:50-2:10) • Finish Writing • Read Aloud • Planners/Pack up /Pick Up • Specialist • Dismissal

  16. Ummm… What About Homework? • Nope, but here are some options: • ZEARN, Prodigy, Etc. (Passwords coming!) • Links on my website (Monday, Sept. 16) • Read, Read, Read • Create, invent, build, imagine • Play outside • Mindful Family Discussions • and time spent together. • “Children learn as they play.
