  1. Charting The Course Ebenezer Baptist Church 6.30.19

  2. The course is determined by the vision. • Vision is the DNA of the church • If the church is a cell, then the vision is the nucleus of that cell defining its purposes, strategies and functions.

  3. Vision is what moves you to compassion and proclamation of the gospel as a result of seeing the great needs of the people in the community where God has you. • A vision is like the marching orders of the church.

  4. Far to many churches drift towards lowering the bar of partnership so that people can be a part of the church without owning its vision. Such churches end up with attendees who do just that-attend without involvement in the mission of the church.

  5. Vision is determined by several questions and components • What is it that the church is supposed to do for the kingdom at this time and place? • Why is the church supposed to do it? • How is the church planning to get this done?

  6. What markers will tell the church that it is succeeding in its vision? • Theology-our theology will determine what kind of church we will be. • Discovery Process-as the Spirit of God gives us insight chart a course

  7. Vision Statement-Brief, but thorough statement that explains why this church is in the community and to whom God has sent us. The standard that defines our mission. • Non-Negotiables-the beliefs, actions and attitudes of the church. Must be embraced by all.

  8. Vision Strategy-the pathway by which the church will accomplish its vision. These must be transferable. • Strategy Evaluation-Dates and means by which the vision strategy is timely reviewed and measured to know that the church is on course or whether the leaders need to change course.(*)

  9. Vision Celebrations-scheduled weekly, monthly and annually when the church praises God for His work through them. • Vision Communication-means by which the congregation is taught or reminded of the vision God has given them for the community.

  10. Our Vision • Make disciples of the 97,000 people who are within a 15 mile radius of our church, utilizing partnerships when necessary, desiring that all will be committed to a Bibliocentric, Christocentric local church.

  11. 3. The necessary outcome of the vision-we are united and moving forward toward accomplishing a common godly purpose. • Therefore-as a result of the vision of the gospel (Eph. 4:1)

  12. Let your life and walk, speak about the transforming work of the gospel (vs.1) • If we are going to call others to be transformed, there should be evidence of a transformation within us.

  13. Let your love for each other shine as a result of the transforming work of the gospel (vs. 2) • By this all men will know (Jn. 13:35; 15:12; Rom. 12:9-10; Heb. 13:1) • This became a hindrance for the church at Ephesus (Rev. 2)

  14. Let unity be the prevailing mark because of the transforming work of the gospel. (vs. 3) (Phil. 1:27) • Love flows from the Spirit • Love forms a bond of peace • Unity not polytheism (vs. 4-6)
