Broadband Incorporation through Encroachment Permits – How to Apply • Per the California Streets and Highways Code 670-695, Caltrans has the authority to issue encroachment permits to an applicant if the work is conducted in accordance with plans and specifications approved by the Department. NEW

Broadband Incorporation through Encroachment Permits – How to Apply • A NEW Encroachment Permit application was created in order to streamline and expedite Broadband facility installation. • The new application, titled “Broadband Facility Installation and Use Request Application”, may be accessed at: • http://www.calink.ca.gov/pdf/Broadband_Use_Application.pdf DONE

  4. Where to Apply? At the Appropriate District Permit Office http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/developserv/permits/pdf/manual/Appendix_G_(WEB).pdf Applicants should provide thefollowing Project location, description, plans, permit fees

  9. Broadband Regulations and Goals • Conflict Resolution Timeline was reduced • Established a Departmental goal to expedite the review and approval of Broadband Encroachment Permit Applications to within 40 days • Established Broadband Dispute Resolution Committee (BDRC)

  10. Caltrans’ Own System • Caltrans developed its own system and installed fiber optic network to feed information into the Traffic Management Centers (TMCs) for traffic/incident monitoring and response. • Caltrans system exists in urbanized areas

  11. Caltrans’ Fiber Optic Network • Existing 738 miles • In Construction 145 miles • Programmed 119 miles • Proposed 1,563 miles • Build-out 2,564 miles
