5. Child experiences our society • Children are depended beings who rely on the adults for the holistic development by the provision of the basic child rights as mentioned earlier. • Child abuses as a result of denial of their human rights are on the increase

6. SOLGIDI-Solidarity with girls in Distress A Programme of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa initiated by Sr. Dr. Lea Ackermann with the support of Br. Frank TenHoopen to assist children from families of Commercial sex workers in Mombasa Districts Of Coast province in 2002- April

7. GOAL-SOLGIDI Children of Commercial Sex workers given opportunity to education and lead a normal accepted life

8. OBJECTIVE To contribute towards the improvement of the lifestyles of children of commercial sex workers

9. TARGET Primary beneficiaries are children of CSWs up to the age of 18 yrs while their guardians become secondary beneficiaries. Target area is the great Mombasa

14. OUR ROLE-SOLGIDI • Provision of basic education -identification of the beneficiaries -Provision of school fees and other requirements (books, uniforms, personal effects etc ) -monitoring of the child in school -School transport

26. Statistics • 500 children getting psychosocial support annually • 200 guardians supported • 67 girls gone through secondary education and completed • Currently 136 girls , 7 boys in school and 16 in college
