  1. Australian Literature A Famous Author – Banjo Paterson

  2. The Early Years Banjo Paterson was known as ‘Barty’ to to his family and mates. He was born Andrew Barton Paterson on 17 February 1864 His parents names were Andrew Bogle and Rose Isabella Paterson, they were graziers on Illalong station in the Yass district.

  3. Education Paterson’s Early Education took place at home, then at a bush school at Binalong. Then from the age of ten he attended Sydney Grammar School. At 16 he worked to become a solicitor and was admitted in 1889 and formed his first business. During these years his love of writing grew.

  4. Banjo – the famous author In 1895, at the age of 31 and still working as a solicitor Banjo achieved his first milestones in writing. He composed his now famous ballad ‘Waltzing Matilda’ and wrote his first book, ‘The Man From Snowy River’. The first edition sold within a week. Paterson then left the legal profession and started writing for the Sydney Moring Herald and saw him travel to South Africa and China.

  5. Banjo and Our Culture Banjo Paterson has played a major part in how our culture is seen today. He has created one of most famous anthems and is recognised around the globe. He also was a major influence in developing the understandings of the ‘Australian Spirit’ and how it makes the country of Australia so special. His thoughts unique and inspiring, relating to all Australians as we stand as one.
