What are Sacraments ? • To define a Sacrament • To explain how the Sacraments make God’s life and power real • To evaluate whether objects can make God’s life and power present to us Was God really present in Jesus’ body ? Did God miracles through Jesus’ body? Forgive sins through Jesus’ hands? Could other objects or things make God really present?

Write out the definition and put a box around it. IMPORTANT TO KNOW !! **What sort of “objects with a meaning” does God use, to make real His power for us? God worked in Jesus to heal sickness, forgive sins, rise from the dead. God gave himself to us through Jesus body, and sacrificed himself for us on the cross. Jesus doesn’t walk on earth any more -but God still gives us His power to heal, forgive sins in other ways - through the Sacraments. The Sacraments are religious ceremonies that use objects with a special meaning. They give us God’s power and eternal life – the life and power that was in Jesus.

Which objects or gestures would NOT have the right kind of meaning to be used in a Sacrament?
1. – because Jesus chose it to be His blood at the Last Supper match & explain why each object is chosen for God to show His power. *Draw the objects! ***Could any bread or water have God’s power or does it have to be part of a ceremony? 2. - because through it, Jesus won victory over sin and death 3. – because Jesus made it holy when he went into the water to be baptised by John 4. - because Jesus chose it to be His body at the Last Supper. Laying on of Hands 5. – because that is how the first apostles passed on the gift of the holy spirit to others 6. – because kings and prophets in the OT were given their mission and strength when they were anointed with it Oil
Jesus in His human body ACTUALLY brought God’s life and power into the world. So if Jesus’ body, by God’s choice, brought God’s life into the world, why can’t other objects ? Some Christians say physical objects like bread, or water, only remind you about God, but can’t actually make God’s life and power real to us.What do you think?
