Spectroscopy
New Units!. Before we get started, we need to be aware of a couple of wavelength and frequency units we haven't used yet.. We discuss bond lengths when we talk about vibrational and rotational spectroscopy. For example, the C=O bond length in CO2 is 0.0000000001156 m.Obviously, we'd never express the length this way! But we don't usually use nanometers either, because bond lengths are always less than 1 nm (in this case, 0.1156 nm), and scientists like to use units that allow our values to be larger than 1..
