  2. Harm Reduction and Medical Maintenance • What is the concept of harm reduction? Would this be an effective policy in the U.S.? Why, or why not? Is medical maintenance a viable policy to reduce drug abuse? Why, or why not? Be prepared to discuss these issues based on what you have learned from the course material and any personal experiences or observations.

  3. Drug Law Enforcement PowerPoint Final project • Create a 10-15 slide PowerPoint presentation concerning the state-level drug laws in your state and the law enforcement agencies who enforce them. • Be sure to identify both the illegal behavior and punishments identified under drug laws, and discuss those local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies that have, either as a primary or secondary mission, the duty of enforcing drug laws. • Focus on the responsibilities of each agency, jurisdictional limitations of each agency, as well as cooperation issues among the various agencies involved in state-level drug law enforcement. • The PowerPoint should contain a title page and a list of references in APA format where necessary. • All internal citation of outside sources plus the listing of all references should also adhere to APA format.

  14. PRINCIPLES OF HARM REDUCTION

  15. Austrian drug policy 1. There must be a balance between the use of health tools aimed at reducing demand for drugs and law enforcement tools aimed at reducing the supply of drugs. 2. Drug use should not be legalized but decriminalized. 3. Drug addiction should be acknowledged as a disease not an immoral life choice. 4. Because the aim of a drug-free society is unrealistic, measures should be taken to reduce the social and bodily harm caused by drug use
