an unidentified woman comes and pours perfume all over his head (Mark 14:3)
“The [growing, advancing] Christian lets God strip him of everything that might serve as a false refuge -- a secondary trust.” -- A.W. Tozer.
Why the “…woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume…” – Mark tells us (Mark 14:3)
Why they said “…indignantly to one another. Why this waste of perfume. It could have been sold…and…given to the poor. And they rebuked her harshly.” (Mark 14:4-5)
“Leave her alone” – Jesus snaps at the woman’s critics. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me…” (Mark 14:6)
“…Some say, [my] letters are weighty and forceful, but in person [I am] unimpressive and my speaking amounts to nothing…” (2 Corinthians 10:10). But is Paul fazed by such harshness? Not really. Why in Galatians 1:10 he declares – “I am not trying to please people. I want to please God. Do you think I am trying to please people? If I were doing that, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10, Contemporary English Version)
Why this woman “…has done all she could by pouring perfume on my body…” Jesus notes in Mark 14:9. And because of such sacrifice, such devotion “…You may be sure that…people will remember what she has done. And they will tell others.” (Mark 14:9, Contemporary English Version)
Break open your life, for His Kingdom’s Cause – and let the aroma of Jesus – the fragrance of Jesus – the beauty of Jesus – pour over -- and saturate your life!
