Pattern of Violations Screenings • 2010: Revised POV program • Screened over 14,000 mines each year • Completed four screenings • Number of mines identified for POV dropped since first screening in 2010 • 2010: 53 mines identified; 17 PPOV; 2 POV • 2013: 9 mines identified; 4 POV notices • Reduction: 83 percent from 2010

  3. 4th quarter 2013 fatalities • 15 fatalities • 6 coal miners • 9 metal/nonmetal

  4. 2013 fatalities • 42 miners died in work-related accidents • 20 in coal mining • 22 in metal/nonmetal mining • 4 contractor mining deaths in 2013 – 2 in coal, 2 in metal/nonmetal
