An important genre is Raga music, which is based on seventy two melas, or sets of notes that are always played in order. Raga’s are played with different emotions, such as shringara (romantic and erotic); hasya (humorous); karuna (pathetic); raudra (anger); veera (heroic);, and so on. They each coincide with the six seasons, winter, spring, summer, autumn, rainy season and early winter, and the different time of day, early morning, sunrise, morning, noon, afternoon, sunset, early evening and late night. Most of the early Indian music was written by saints for devotion and meditation. It is used throughout temples. Most of the music also comes from filmi, film music.
