  2. Technical job skills refers to the talent and expertise a person possesses to perform a certain job or task.

  3. Also called hard skills as opposed to soft skills which are personality and character

  4. Prepare for on-the-job coaching

  5. Identify the need for coaching based on a range of factors.

  6. Identify specific coaching needs through discussion with colleague to be coached.

  7. Where appropriate, organise coaching sessions according to organisation policy.

  8. Coach colleagues on the job

  9. Explain the overall purpose of coaching to colleague.

  10. Explain and demonstrate the specific skills to be coached

  11. Communicate clearly any underpinning knowledge required and check colleague's understanding

  12. Provide colleague with opportunity to practise the skill and ask questions.

  13. Provide feedback in a constructive and supportive manner.

  14. Follow up coaching

  15. Monitor progress with new skills in the workplace and provide supportive assistance as required.

  16. Report progress to the appropriate person as required.

  17. Identify performance problems or difficulties with the coaching and rectify them or refer them to the appropriate person for follow-up.
