Project Focus Area • Machinery • Caterpillar Paving Products Inc. • Caterpillar was unwilling to share risk management documents with us • We were able to do two interviews at CAT but were unable to use specific product or process information
Document Search • We broadened our focus to include risk management documents from any area • Documents mainly found using internet search engines • Google • Yahoo • Some documents came from industry contacts
Article Search • We found an abundance of articles relating to risk management • Articles were found using search engines • Took majority of articles from PMI’s website

Project Management Tools • Microsoft Project • Discussed our Myers-Briggs results to better understand each other • Risk Tracking Document
Risk Tracking Survey • Purpose: To identify potential risks • Method: • Risk team identified list of 10 items • Team managers were asked to rank risks 1-10
Risk Tracking Survey Outcome • Results were not discussed in second status report • No action was taken to identify and mitigate risks until late in the project
Project Success • We successfully… • Found 2.5 Documents per person • Found more than 1 Article per person • Documented 2 Interviews • Organized all documents onto a website • Used project management tools and methodologies
Project Shortcomings • We had trouble… • Effectively implementing risk tracking process • Reaching Milestones on-time • Tracking Team hours
Lessons Learned • Ensure that objectives are clearly understood • Take time to plan and follow that plan • Communicate effectively
