  4. Creating a New Blank File • So far we have edited existing images, but sometimes you want to build a file from scratch • Choose File>New

  5. New Layer Dialog Box Size in either inches or pixels Resolution (72 is good for viewing on PC) Color Mode – RGB is best Background – White, a color or transparent

  6. Adding Shapes • Use the Shape Marquee tool to add a shape to the image

  7. Naming a Layer • Sometimes it’s easier if layers are given names • Double click on a layer name to edit the name

  8. Using Masks in Layers • Using a layer mask allows for better blending and more realistic compositions • Mask allow special effects to be added • Gradients, etc

  9. Adding a Shadow • Holding the ALT key when moving a layer will make a copy of the layer • Change Color • Add a Gaussian Blur to make the shadow more realistic (Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur)

  10. Rest of Today • Complete the exercise from yesterday Two Choices: • Pots… Take the black and white picture of the wall and the pots (ps0602) • Select Image > Mode > RGB Color • Color 3 of the pots • Remove the window from the wall • Dandelion… Take the picture of the girl and the dandelion (ps0201) • Color the girl’s sweater a different color • Remove the dandelion from her hand.
