  1. MarsREM Requirements for Nuclear-Nuclear Physics Pete Truscott & Fan Lei

  2. WP1 Assessment, development and validation of Monte Carlo radiation transport models • Baseline Requirements Document generated and distributed (outlined previously at G4 Space Users Workshop) QinetiQ/S&DU/Space/0602287 • Lists the requirements from the perspective of incident particle species, energies, target nuclei as a function of application of the models • Key requirement considered to address >5GeV/nuc to 100’s GeV/nuc nuclear-nuclear interactions, including full treatment of nuclear fragments • Review also conducted of published data about the models, such as BME, LAQGSM, DPMJET2.5, DPMJET3, : • G4 Space Users Workshop presentation shows some of the initial work: http://geant4.slac.stanford.edu/Space06/presentations/01_Monday/07-Truscott_nuclear-nuclear.ppt • Focusing on the development of a G4 interface for DPMJET2.5 (5GeV/nuc to 1000 TeV/nuc) • QQ access to PHITS also highly desirable in order to compare performance • Draft Technical Specification and Interface Control Document QinetiQ/S&DU/Space/0700180/0.a

  3. Comparison measured and FLUKA-predicted yields from Pb on C, Al, Cu, Sn, Au and Pb (158 GeV/A) DPMJET-III Expt How different are DPMJET-2.5 and DPMJET-3? Comparisons from Ballarini et al www.fluka.org

  4. WP1 DPMJET-2.5 & DPMJET-3 • Differences observed in output from DPMJET 2.5 and DPMJET-3, based on FLUKA simulations • Little difference (within statistics) to 2x • Instances where difference is 6x • Is the level of difference correlated with energy (158 GeV/nuc for many cases where agreement if good)? • QinetiQ talking with Stefan Roesler who controls distribution of DPMJET-3 code, but we first need to assess how much effort may be require from him co-workers
