Pilot Calls: Mads presented the status of the calls Some members of ESC still had some clearifying questions The funders group had a short discussion after the end of the ESC meeting of the first day
Pilot Calls: Follow up after the meeting: Mads will make an updated version of the documents which will be sent to the funders group at the end of Friday 29 September The deadline for comments from members of the funders group will be Tuesday 3 October NICe will announce the calls on the homepage of SAFEFOODERA not later than 6 October Congratulations to every participant for finalizing this major achievement of SAFEFOODERA!!!
WP5: Workshop on lessions learned about Pilot calls (Philippe) Four active working groups Philippe collected and presented the key information from the work The four groups agreed on many issues, but it also seemed that there is room for further discussions on some issues
WP5: Workshop on lessions learned about Pilot calls (Philippe) Follow up after the ESC-meeting: Philippe refines the preliminary report presented to the ESC The report will be distributed to all ESC-members The ESC-members will have the possibility to propose changes Philippe writes a short final report The report is an important learning lesson and will be an important input to the working group on a possible second call (see a later slide) The report could be useful for other ERA-Nets
WP4 Joint activities (Alisdair) • Update of information about the WP • Information about the workshop in Bonn 30-31 October 2006 • Vision: Feasibility of establishing a forum for food safety research ideas • 24 participants at present: More ERA-Net partners and organizations in your countries are urged to register ASAP. More focus on: • The objective • Outcome of the workshop
Status of the WP presented to ESC Meetings with different stakeholders will be organized (Five meetings: see time schedule on a later slide) SAFEFOODERA-partners should participate. WP1 Management framework (Oddur) Proposal for the redistribution of the budget PMG makes a proposal to ESC: Written procedure Work groups for the future planning: Proposal for members. The groups propose mandates which are to be approved by PMG ESC will be innformed about the mandate
Expansion of SAFEFOODERA (Hartmut) • ESC have already decided (Limassol): • To invite Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Check Republik, Bulgaria and Rumenia to become observers in SAFEFOODERA on their own cost with the view to establishing a case for full membership as soon as possible, ideally (limassol) not later than 12 months from today. • Establish a new WP within the existing WP4 and WP6 • Appoint Hartmut Waldner to coordinate the new WP • and as anew member of PMG • Invite other EU-countries not beeing member of SAFEFOODERA to become observers in SAFEFOODERA on their own cost • The project coordinator and Hartmut Waldner is asked to investigate further the posibility to include Third countries into SAFEFOODERA.
Extension of SAFEFOODERA (Hartmut) Decision of ESC at Scheveningen: Latvia, Lithuania, Brazil, Ireland and Croatia (with eligble organizations) are invited to finalize the process to become partners Membership will be confirmed by the ESC on a written procedure when the necessary documentation has been provided SAFEFOODERA will be able to cover travel expenses for the new partners according to the ERA-Net work programme rules
Extension of SAFEFOODERA (Hartmut) Future work: Prepare an information package for the new partners Assisting new partners with all paperwork Incl. justification New partners have to make an overview on their national food safety research programmes/projects New partners are invited to present new ideas for joint activities

Future expansion ? • Suggestion to go ahead with the process according to the Limassol decision to include new countries or international organisations (EFSA, WHO, FAO ……) • From this group a new batch (batches) could emerge. • Countries who do not reply to invitations several times will be left out.
