  1. E2: Writing Definitions

  2. Instructions • Definitions should be complete and full of enough detail that one cannot mistake the word for something else. • Definitions should be defined as what part of speech it is (noun, verb, etc) • Complete sentences are NOT necessary; however, correct grammar should be used! • Level 2H rule: • Students may not repeat part of word in the definition. Example: You can not use the verb jugar in jugar al tenis or el juguete (toy-noun form for jugar)

  3. Sample Definitions • NOUN (nombre, sustantivo) • Una cosa/persona que…. • Un lugar en donde… • VERB (verbo) • La acción de… • Start w/infinitive verb • ADJECTIVE (adjectivo) • Algo que describe… • Start w/adjective

  4. Useful connectors • Que (no accent)-that • Cuando (no accent)-when • Porque (no accent)-because • Donde/en donde (no accent)-where • These connectors allow you to have more than one conjugated verb together in a sentence.

  5. Use the dictionaries to GUIDE you, but simplify definitions into words you know!

  10. Things to Watch for (Gramática) • After que-always a conjugated verb • After para-infinitive form of verb • Impersonal “se”- ejse busca (one looks for ) • don’t use “tú” form. Use passive voice when possible—que se usa/ se usan (that is used) not que usas (that you use…) • Personal “A”!!! • Ayuda a los pasajeros
