PERCEPTION • “ability to see, hear, or become aware of something” • Mark 8:10-21 “do you not yet perceive nor understand?” • Acts 17:16-23 “I perceive that in all things you are very religious”
Some Are Not Willing To Be Perceptive • Ezekiel 12:1,2 “eyes to see but does not see… for they are a rebellious house.” • John 12:37-41 “lest they should see with their eyes, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them. ”
Some Have a Flawed Perception • Acts 4:8-13 “and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled” • Some SEE but do not PERCEIVE what God wants them to SEE – Mark 4:12 • Romans 8:5-8 “carnally minded” • James 4:3 “spend on your pleasures” • Romans 12:1,2 “living sacrifice” • Ephesians 4:22-24 “put on new man” • Matthew 19:16-22 “went away sorrowful” • Luke 12:15-21 “beware of covetousness”
The Right Attitude Avoids Material Distractions • Proverbs 30:8,9 “lest I be full and deny you….lest I be poor and steal” • Carnal vision causes our perception of true blessing to fail – Mark 4:18,19 • David – Psalm 89:3,4 • Had all he could want – 2 Samuel 12:7,8 • Carnality won over – 2 Samuel 11
Looking At The Scriptures In Ignorance Will Flaw Your Perception • Luke 6:1-11 “they were filled with rage and discussed…what they might do to Jesus” • “the Bible says to forgive everyone” Matthew 6:14,15 • But there are qualifiers – Luke 17:3,4; Ephesians 4:32 • “God will not hold you accountable like a Judge in a courtroom for everything you do because He’s merciful” Psalm 86:5 • While ignoring – Matthew 12:36; Romans 14:11,12; 2 Corinthians 5:10
If You See People Through Your Eyes Rather Than God’s Eyes, You’ll Misjudge Others • 1 Peter 3:12 “eyes of the Lord are on the righteous” • God’s view of sinners is clear – Psalm 11:5; Proverbs 11:20; Matthew 7:21-23; Revelation 22:14,15 • The Lord expects us to view those in sin as He does – Psalm 97:10; Ephesians 5:11; James 4:4
How You Look At Things Does Matter • Proverbs 3:5-7 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.”
