Allison: 3 Main Points • Real need for increased government efficiency, but the notion that a large body of private sector practices and skills can be transferred to the gov’t is wrong. • Certainly room for improvement in public managers’ performance, but improvement will not come from a massive borrowing of private sector-based skills. • While it is possible to learn from other sectors, advancement of the field of public mgmt will come from focusing on problems of practicing managers as starting point.
