Homework • Mathematics • Up to 20 minutes a night • Recorded on WAC by child • Generally, basic facts quizzes on Tuesdays and quizzes on Thursday • Daily Reading (recorded on WAC) • 20 minutes a night (includes being read to, listening to audio-books, reading out loud, reading the newspaper, independent reading, etc.) • Spelling and Grammar • Spelling assignment of choice to be completed once every other week on Tuesday. • Spelling and DOLP quizzes on alternating Fridays. • Long Term Projects (will be announced) • To include writing • Up to 2 per quarter • Multi-disciplinary
Language Arts: Reading • Reading Small group instruction Genre studies William and Mary Junior Great Books Literature circles
Language Arts: Writing • Conventions—DOLP (every other week) • Spelling—formal (tests on alternating weeks) • Spelling- applied in their writing • Writing Workshop • Six Traits • Writer’s notebook • Writer’s workshop • Word processing
Mathematics • Three classes (5th grade math, and two sections of 4th grade math) • On-going assessments, daily and weekly (generally on Thursday) • County Unit Assessments, announced • Students are expected to practice multiplication basic facts regularly
ScienceWe Live It Each Day. • Stream Team—Chesapeake Bay Stewardship • DNR Partnership • Green Kids (Audubon Society) • Chesapeake Bay Trust support ($5000) • Field trips such as LadyMaryland/Sigsbee, Echo Hill, Flag Ponds • Three units are: Ecosystems (biology and ecology), Changes in Matter (chemistry), and Earth Materials (geology)
