This disease may result in the form of blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis, inflammation, or narrowing and blockage of the blood vessels. In case the peripheral vascular disease affects only the arteries, the condition is known as PAD. PAD is also considered one of the most serious complications in patients with diabetes. It is characterized by narrowed arteries due to the accumulation of plaques (composed of fat, cholesterol, and fibrous tissue) that results in reduced blood flow to the brain, organs, and limbs, especially the legs. PAD is known to increase the risk of stroke and heart attack by up to six times. As per the analysts forecast the global peripheral vascular devices market to grow at a CAGR of 7.29% over the period 2014-2019.
