  1. Timed Writing & Visual Evaluation Professor Danielsen

  2. Warm Up: • How do you approach a timed writing/essay?

  3. Timed Writing • A common method for evaluating how well you think on your feet • Common in college classes, entrance exams, exit exams, placement exams, etc.

  4. Before the essay • Get a good night’s rest. • Don’t psych yourself out. • Make sure you eat a light meal before hand and are not hungry/too full before your essay.

  5. True/False: During the essay • Use clichéd language • Read the prompt carefully • Write as much as you possibly can • Underline, highlight, star anything in the prompt that seems to be important or required • Rely on the 5 paragraph model • Go through the beginning of the writing process!

  7. Timed Writing • You only need to brainstorm and get through a single draft. • Don’t worry too much about grammatical mistakes/spelling- cross things out if you need to! • Graders will be looking for development of ideas, not necessarily correct spelling.

  8. Timed Writing • Budget your time! • Budget for brainstorming • Budget for drafting • Budget for major revising at the end

  9. Visual Evaluation • We will be evaluating a film, and thus it is important to understand some basic film terms: • Dialogue/Script(Screenwriting) • Acting • Cinematography/Photography • Film Editing • Costuming • Music/Film Score • Director
