Cooperative • A business owned or controlled by the people that use its services and whose benefits are derived and distributed equitably on the basis of use and ownership • An autonomous association of people who voluntarily cooperate for their mutual social, economic, and cultural benefit • Based on the concept of cooperation to achieve a “common goal”

Review/Summary • Today we learned that a lot of the services we use daily are provided by various types of cooperatives at the local, regional, and national level. In today’s business world, cooperatives offer a different dynamic and structure. Cooperatives are owned and controlled by the people that use its services, and whose benefits are distributed equitably on the basis of use and ownership. Overall, it is based on the concept of cooperation to achieve a common goal. To accomplish this common goal, cooperatives must have a structured governance system that is guided by the 3 pillar and 7 principles models.
