What was one of Henries favourite sports? Was it tennis or football? • Is the austronomical clock the size of the moon or the sun? • What did Henry put in the garden in 1569? (It’s still there today!) Is it a vine or an apple tree? • Which animals can you see in the parks around the palace? Is it deer or sheep? • What happened in 1986? Was it a fire or a flood?
Let's build a Celtic Round House The Celts lived in roundhouses, with thatched roofs of straw or heather. In places where there were lots of trees the walls were made from wattle and daub but in the north of Britain the walls were made of large stones.
What to do: 1. Mark out a 12cm wide circle using two pieces of wood and some string
2. Push stakes into base, making sure they are the same height. It is best to do this in the same order as this animation. Door
3. We now need to finish the walls with wattle and daub. Weave your wool between the stakes, this is the wattle. Then apply the daub to the outside of the wall, being careful not to move your stakes.
5. To make the thatched roof take your 10 rafters and hold them in a bunch. Wrap some twin around them, pull tight and tie in a knot. 6. Spread the rafters out evenly. Top view
6. Cut out your thatch blocks and stick them to your rafters. Starting from the middle and working your way out to the edges.
6. Put the thatched roof onto your walls and cut out a semi-circle for you door.
GREAT JOB! 6. Find a patch of grass outside and put your round houses together to make settlements.
