How to Safely Clean Your EDC Knives? There is nothing like a smooth, clean, and sharp EDC pocket knife that’s ready to cut, poke, slice, and deice at a moment’s notice. But how do you keep those assisted knives in tip-top shape and ready for action? Before we plunge into the knife care and maintenance tips, you will need a few things: · Your favorite everyday carry knife · An old toothbrush · Few cotton swabs · Two rags/ piece of cloth · Few drops of oil
Typically, knife maintenance starts with keeping the blade sharp, lubricated, and clean. With regard to knife cleaning, let us begin with the simpler steps: for general cleaning of your blade, simply wipe down your knife blade and handle with a preferably slightly-moist cloth that is free of lint. You can also use a dry piece of cloth; however, you need to make sure to wipe down the blade and handle after every use. For safety purpose, it is highly recommended that you wear leather gloves during the cleaning process. Also, make sure that your palm is on the side of the spine during the wiping procedure. This will prevent accidental cut and injury. Make sure that no dirt dries on the blade or inside the knife handle, mud becomes hard to clean if it is not cleaned off immediately. Moving onwards to a thorough cleaning, use the old toothbrush, and make sure to get out all the dust and dirt out of the knife crevices. Keep your focus on the knife’s locking mechanism, the inner side of the handle, and particularly around the pivot of the blade. In order to remove the dirt which is inside the knife handle, you can use a dry cotton swab. Additionally, you might want to use high-pressured canned air to blow out the dust and dirt from all the hard-to-access knife spots and places. For a more effective cleaning, you can also moisten the old toothbrush, cotton swab, and piece of cloth with few drops of oil. If you have used your EDC knife while you were on an adventure trip, and have tree sap stuck to it, there is the possibility that the cleaning of it has become some sticky problem. The good news is that you can get your assisted knives clean with a simple trick: put some sanitizer gel on the affected area. It will work wonders. Despite the fact that assisted pocket knives are made of stainless steel; yet, they need to be cleaned and sharpened regularly.
