Upward Flammability of Materials in GOX(Promoted Combustion)Test 17 from NASA-STD-6001 • Purpose: Determine flammability of materials in GOX at ambient temperatures • These tests investigate the flammability of metals that may be exposed to ignition sources to determine their combustion characteristics in GOX and at pressures as great as 69,000 kPa MAPTIS Presentation
Upward Flammability of Materials in GOX(Promoted Combustion)Test 17 from NASA-STD-6001 • Typical Specimen • 0.35 cm diameter rod • Minimum of 30 cm in length • Ignition Source • Aluminum or magnesium promoter to release > 3.0 kJ • Test Conditions • Worst-case pressure, temp, and oxygen concentration • Acceptance Criteria • Considered flammable at tested pressure if one sample burns more than 15 cm. • At least 5 samples must be tested.
