Tasks T7.1 Development of efficient modeling tools for earthquakes along complex faults in realistic rheology. T7.2 Inference of fault rheology from ground motions. (Dynamic inversion) T7.3 Extension of benchmark library for source modeling and inversion problems. (Task complemented with the WP2, and contribution from Martin Mai)* T7.4 Inversion of rupture from broadband records (Contribution from Martin Mai)* *Through close coordination with Heiner Igel
Specifics Tasks by Partners -Developing a numerical method to accommodate realistic dynamic earthquake rupture for complex 3D fault geometries and heterogeneous velocity structures. (Dalguer/Nissen-Meyer) PhD student Percy Galvez. Collaboration with Ampuero and Madariaga.(T7.1) - Earthquake Source Rupture Dynamic modeling (Bizzarri/Festa) possible PhD Walid Ben Mansour (T7.1) -Complex earthquake source dynamic with DG method (Martin Kaser and Christian Pelties) (T7.1) -Inversion of dynamic rupture parameters (Das/Madariaga) with PhD student Twardzik: using strong motion data; potential earthquakes to be considered are the 2004 parkfield, 2010 new Zeland. (T7.2) -Benchmark library for source modeling in coordination with WP2 (Peter Moczo). (T7.3)
Specifics Tasks by Partners (Continuation) -Joint inversions of surface wave and InSAR data for point source models (A. Ferreira, UEA) Martin Mai (KAUST). -Compilation of INSAR source model. (A. Ferreira, UEA and Martin Mai KAUST). -Rapid source inversions (mostly Mw, depth, strike, dip and rake) and the validation of the source parameters using long-period surface waves and normal modes (A. Ferreira, UEA and Martin Vallee, NICE) -Integration with NERA project (Dalguer/Festa)
Past Activities - September 17, 2010: Visited the laboratory of high velocity rotary shear apparatus operating in Rome, at INGV, to initiate a collaboration with the people working on it (Di Toro and Nielsen ). Kindly organized by Dr.A. Bizzarri .
Future Activities - May 13, 2011 Royal Astronomical society discussion meeting on“Supershear Earthquake rupture Speeds”, with invited speakers and participants of WP7, and with participation of several distinguished colleagues from the US (Archuleta, Rosakis) and Eu (Bouchon). Organized by Prof. S. Das - December 2011/12 Organize special session on Earthquake Source related topic at AGU, San Francisco. - Summer 2013 Organize special session on Earthquake Source related topic at IASPEI, Sweden
Future Activities (Continuation) - 2011 Visitors to ETH to give lectures: Raul Madariaga Peter Moczo Martin Kaser -2011/2012 Source Code Validation in EU: take experience from SCEC (will be carefully discussed in future meetings) -2011/2012: Invitation of EU researchers for future QUEST workshops Luis Riviera (IPGS, Louis Pasteur University) Michel Bouchon (LGIT) Massimo Cocco, Stefan Niesen (INGV) Pascal Bernard (IPGP) Aldo Zollo (University of Naples)
