A friend of Georgia’s took 10 of her drawings to a very well known gallery, 291. • She showed these drawings to Alfred Steglitz, the owner. • He displayed the 10 drawings without her permission.
She later married Steglitz • Her art was an immediate response to her environment. • Well-known for flowers and desert paintings. • She was fascinated by the inner workings of the flowers.
Monumental • “Nobody sees a flower really, it is so small, we haven’t the time, and to see it takes time, so I’ll paint what I see, I’ll paint it big and they will be surprised into taking the time to look at it”. (O’Keeffe)
She spent her summers in New Mexico painting the desert. • Later in her life she began to lose her eye sight and gave up painting. • She moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1986.
She also visited Ghost Ranch in New Mexico which became another subject for her paintings. • Georgia O’Keeffe died in 1986, at the age of 98.
