  2. The Arab League • The Arab League • a voluntary association of independent countries whose people are mainly Arabic speaking. • Its stated purposes are to strengthen ties among the member states, coordinate their policies, and promote their common interests.

  3. Who’s part of the Arab League • Where the Arab Legue was founded • Countries later joined

  4. Who to thank • Amir Abd-Ul Qadir Algaza’ri was born in 1808 AD in the city of Mu’askar, west of Algeria. • He was an impressive orator. • This gave him influence on the tribes who pledged him allegiance to lead the Jihad against France in 1832. • His state afterward had the capital city of Muaskar. • However, the French devoted all thier military to destroying him and he surrendered in 1847. He was put in jail for 5 years untill he died in 1883.

The UN • The United Nations (UN) is an international organization whose stated aims are to facilitate cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress and human rights issues. • The United Nations was founded in 1945 to replace the League of Nations.

  6. Who’s in the UN • There are now 192 United Nations member states, encompassing almost every recognized independent state. From its headquarters in New York City, the UN and its specialized agencies decide on substantive and administrative issues in regular meetings held throughout the year.

  7. How the UN started • The forerunner of the United Nations was the League of Nations • .“The name "United Nations", coined by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt, was first used in the "Declaration by United Nations" of 1 January 1942. • During the Second World War, when representatives of 26 nations pledged their governments to continue fighting together against the Axis Powers. It has been in power ever since.
