Nellie Mayshak, Public Service Reform Expert Bio Summary Nellie Mayshak is the founder, president and principal consultant of Canaf Consulting Associates, a firm that has deep experience in the area of public administration and civil service reform, experience that includes designing executive and cabinet decision-making processes, government planning and policy development processes, and institutional capacity building. More than 30 years in public service reform and change management Nellie Mayshak began her career in the public sector by working for the Ontario Government in Canada, where she served as a Senior Manager at different departments for ten years. Nellie also worked for the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, Ontario. Both of these positions gave her a firm grounding in public service reform and an understanding of how to work with various international organizations interested in public administration and management. A trusted adviser, Nellie has held high profile, government-appointed positions such as Senior Policy Advisor for the Ontario Cabinet Office, Canada, and Policy Advisor to the Solicitor General and Minister of Correctional Services. At the International level, some of her accomplishments include assisting with the development of Lithuania’s strategic planning policy following processes dictated by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). This precision groundwork allowed Lithuania to gain entrance into the European Union (EU). In Liberia, Nellie led a team of international experts to facilitate the reconstruction of the public service in the country under a comprehensive Civil Services Reform Strategy. She also had the privilege of consulting with the first elected female President in Africa, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Nellie Mayshak has also worked extensively in Ghana, assisting the government as they streamlined the decision-making process for the Cabinet. Her advisory skills were called upon by senior officials as they improved the efficiency of their administration. As part of a high level team of experts, she also provided advisory services to the new Prime Minister in Kenya.
Education Nellie Mayshak earned her B.A. degree from the University of Ife in History and Education, her M.A. degree from The University of British Columbia in Sociology, and her Ph.D. (dissertation pending) from the University of Toronto in Sociology/Criminology. She received the Solicitor General of Canada Award for Advanced Criminological Research. Additionally, she is an active member of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada and the Canadian Association of International Development Consultants.
