Sage 50 Not Opening after October 2018 Sage 50 starts to open and then closes with no error message. The update affects Windows 10 v1803 workstations in a network environment but not the server. You may also receive error: “Sage 50 has stopped working” or “Sage 50 Accounting has stopped working” or "Sage 50 not opening" when opening Task window – Windows 10 What are the Symptoms? Microsoft Windows 10, your operating system, is constantly changing with every new update. Unfortunately, your old Sage 50 program is not getting the updates needed to hang with the new operating system. The new updates are destroying the foundation under your program. This is not Sage’s fault. This is happening to many software companies. Sage is having trouble keeping their current programs running let alone older programs.
If you want to run older software and not upgrade every year, the solution is to move to Microsoft Windows 7 or 8. If you do want to run Windows 10, it is recommended you upgrade your Sage 50 software to match the operating system. I do have a fix that has worked for some 2016, 2017 & 2018 users. Hopefully, it works for you too. Resolution: Sage 50 Not opening NOTE: The following resolution applies only to users currently running Microsoft Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update). Set the Sage 50 icon to run in compatibility mode for Windows 8, follow the steps below: •Right-click the Sage 50 Accounting desktop icon and select properties. •Click the Compatibility tab. •Check the box located in the Compatibility mode section and select Windows 8 from the drop-down menu. •Click OK and launch Sage 50. •Verify that the issue no longer occurs. •While in the Compatibility tab also •Check runs as administrator
NOTE: Users need to have expert-level knowledge of the operating system for solving the issue. So, ideally, they should seek help from their system administrator, as an erroneous modification of the Windows Registry can cause serious damage to the system. The data should also be backed up before attempting to solve the problem.
