  1. Summer Bonanza for Kids SCHEDULE FOR SKATING Skating is a young sport but one that has developed extremely quickly since its origin. It now encompasses inline speed skating, inline hockey, inline ramp and vertical skating, inline street skating, inline slalom skating, inline dancing and inline figure skating. Get the right gear: Before you start skating, you need to be kitted out properly to ensure both safety and sound fit. Besides the inline skates (discussed in the following step), the things to get include: Helmet: This will protect your head from falls. Add some reflective tape and it'll also alert drivers to your presence when it's poor visibility. Get a helmet with a safety standard mark on it. Wrist guards: Standard guards will cover the top area of your hand and with some wrist guards you can also get a "skid pad" that covers the palm of your hand. The purpose of these is to enable you to put down your hands if you're falling onto the ground. Elbow pads: Fitting around the area of your elbow, these protect the fragile elbow region from falls. Knee pads: Ensure that these fit snugly around thekneesand can be secured fast to prevent movement while you're skating. Clothing: Your clothing should be comfortable and cover a lot of your body to help protect your skin from falls. Since inline skating will keep you warm, wear clothes that breathe well and choose clothes that move easily and aren't too heavy.
