  2. Why Are Toys Important? • They help the children’s development Physical, social or mental development • Also keeps them out of trouble or distracts them missing their parents • They are FUN!!!

  3. What toys are appropriate? Who Might Play With This???? Who Would Play With These?

  4. Think about the child’s: • AGE • INTREST LEVEL • SKILL LEVEL • Read the label! Know how to play the game or play with the toy! • Check to make sure toys aren’t broken • Check for safety (small pieces, broken pieces, toxic?) • Store them safely and put them back so you know where they are for next time and help kids become responsible!

  5. TYPES OF TOYS • Sharp toys-can you think of examples? • Small parts • Loud toys-What are some examples? • Toys that propel-like??? • Electronic toys • __________ toys • Age appropriate toys

  6. What is age appropriate….. Birth to 9 Months: Squeaky toys, stuffed animals, cups, balls, pots and pans, Tupperware, blocks,mobiles 9months-1.5 years: Same as above but add large wooden beads and string 11/2 years to 3 years:Action toys, trains,telephones,cars, finger paints, coloring, art materials, clay, water play, story books, musical instruments, play dishes and silver wear Age 3-4.5 years: Simple puzzles, parties with dolls, guessing games, picture books, musical toys, art activities Kindergarten age: Wagons, balls, tricycles, clay, watercolors, musical toys, coloring books, housekeeping toys, playground equipment

  7. Possible Hazards….. Sharp Edges Broken pieces Small pieces Glass Long cords Plastic bags Nuts,bolts,pins,chocking hazzards Marbles/Legos are always a problem
