  2. The Great Awakening • When – 1734 – 1750 • Where – Puritan New England • Main ideas – Puritans weren’t religious enough, apparently. Ministers previously read their sermons, and after they preached loud, fiery sermons.

  3. Main Ideas • Puritans were not devout enough • Inspired guilt and feelings of inadequacy • Without God’s intervention, we are all doomed to burn in the fiery pits of hell. Jonathan Edwards began the revival and is remembered for his sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”
