Article V • Amending the Constitution • How to change the Constitution • Congress AND State approval
Article VI • National debts, supremacy of National (Federal) Law, and oaths of office • When in question, federal law outweighs state law
Article VII • Ratifying the Constitution • How it happened • 9/13, but all did eventually
Popular Sovereignty • Power ultimately belongs to the PEOPLE • “We the People”
Limited Government • No government is all powerful • PEOPLE are only source of government authority • Government must obey their own laws given to them • Not above law • Government cannot fully control people

Checks and Balances • NO branch has more power than another • Each has duties, but can be checked by other branches • How bill becomes law
Judicial Review • Power given to the courts to make sure government actions and laws are constitutional • Marbury vs. Madison case established this
Federalism • Balancing and division of power between the federal AND state governments • This is what made the Constitution different than the Articles of Confederation
