Short Introduction The Yangtze river is the 3rd longest river in the world and the longest in China. It’s about 6418 kilometers long. Yangtze is the most important river in the history, economy, and culture of China.However it does have some downsides.
The river used in the past and how is it used today. Humans had been using the Three Gorges dam area back 27000 years ago. In the olden days, they used it for human civilization, transportation, animals homes and a lot more things. Nowadays, we also use it for human civilization, transportation, animals homes… But, we now also use it for traveling, sightseeing, fishing, rice immigration… And the list goes on and on so If you really want to know some more, just check out the next slide
What are some of the other uses of the River? For thousands of years, people have used the river for water, irrigation, sanitation, transportation, industry, boundary-marking and war. The Three Gorges dam is also the largest hydro-electricity power station in the world. The river is one of the most important source that China uses.
Positive and negative effects on the River + Dam (Negative) Environmental degradation in the Yangtze with increased economic development begin since 1950. Pollution levels have risen in the rivers and lakes, soil erosion in the middle and upper basins caused by the overcutting of trees has reduced surface areas of lakes and wetlands. Of course there’s also this Three Gorges Dam thing that caused a lot of water pollution, Greenhouse Gases, and landslides. ( Still, it had some positives)
Positive and negative effects on the River + Dam (Positive) It will aid in boosting agriculture. It also provides the surrounding areas with a stable source of drinking water. Flood control, power generation, navigation and tourism are also positives of the Three Gorges Dam.
