Mentos Rockets 2/1/2011 By Dominick Mack With help from Siri Jonsson
Abstract: • This experiment tested whether Diet Coke or Pepsi worked better in a Mentos rocket. • Nether rocket worked in this experiment, so we did not find an answer to our question.
Question: • Witch goes higher; Diet Coke or Pepsi with mentos?
Hypothesis: • Diet Pepsi will go higher than diet Coke.
Research: • I went to google and youtube.com. I watched a series of videos about Mentos rockets. Each website I went to I learned different techniques on how to throw the bottles and when to run.
Materials: • Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi , Mentos , two bottles , scotch tape. Safety goggles
Procedure: • Fill a bottle with Diet Coke. Fill a bottle with Diet Pepsi. Use Scotch tape to tape three mentos together. Drop it into the bottle. Tighten, shake well and slam it on the ground.RUN! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkRcEGkdj9U • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BZizwnlR1Q • http://www.break.com/usercontent/2007/4/35-Diet-Coke-and-Mentos-Rockets-273731 • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qBtvrMxVqo&p=7460AE505C9DF963 • ?v=CD2X0juwHkUhttp://www.youtube.com/watch
Summary of Results: • Both bottles did not shoot as a rocket. They just fizzed out of the bottle.
Conclusion: • This experiment did not confirm which was better. A bit disappointing. If I ever try this again, I will practice throwing the bottles with water and use bigger bottles on different surfaces such as rocky, flat, wood, and pavement.
Journal Entries: 1/20/2011 I found two bottles to use. Made a note to get mentos from the store. Got fins for the bottles, and brought them home. 1/25/2011 I cut the fins out for my bottles. Went to the store and brought the mentos and pop home. I researched about my science experiment. 1/26/2011 Updated journal and thought where we should do the experiment.
