Current Issues • Drug production and trafficking • U.S. provides funds, technology, and material support to Colombian lead anti-drug campaigns • Although 90% of the cocaine in America is processed in Colombia and Colombia is still the primary source for heroin Colombia has made significant progress. • Environmental issues • Soil and water pollution from pesticides • Air pollution from vehicle emissions • Overcrowding in cities • More than 11.5 million homes do not meet the needs of the families living there • 40% of those 11.5 million needs are not met because of overcrowding and 20% that number is a result of insufficient public utilities
