  3. Purpose and Need Facilitate use of viable, non-motorized travel options for commuters and recreation users in the Able Canal corridor and within Lehigh Acres. Create additional access and connections for pedestrians and bicyclists to community points of interest and area destinations.

Planning Consistency PD&E Study is included in: • FDOT State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) • Lee County Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) • Lee County 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) Design and Construction for one segment is listed in Lee County Capital Improvement Program (CIP) • Lehigh Acres Community Park North to Lehigh Acres Trailhead Park (Williams Ave. to Joel Blvd.)

Pathway Details Paved, shared-use path for non-motorized use 12 feet wide with 2 feet grading/sod on both sides (total = 16 feet) High-emphasis crosswalks at side streets; bollards to preclude vehicles Will drain away from Able Canal to avoid side slope erosion Includes pedestrian bridges over tributary canals Some alternatives under consideration also include pedestrian bridges across Able Canal
